You might want to check out this site. It's called Meebo, it allows you via a webpage to access your instant message. You don't have to download anything, you just sign in and you are able to im people. They also just released a product called Meebo rooms that allow you to set up your own personal chat room that allows you to host video, etc.
It's pretty cool stuff.
